Hearth is a private journaling space. This policy explains what isn't allowed. It applies to everyone who uses Hearth and supplements our Terms of Service.
Because your journal is encrypted and private — in managed mode we don't read it, and in Private Vault mode we can't — we do not monitor what you write. This policy is about how you use the service, not about policing your private entries.
Don't misuse the service
You agree not to:
- Break, probe, or circumvent Hearth's security, rate limits, or access controls, or attempt to access another person's account or data.
- Disrupt or degrade the service — including denial-of-service attempts, scraping, or automated abuse of the API, the AI features, the AI connector, or the registration and sign-in endpoints.
- Reverse-engineer, resell, or build a competing service from Hearth, except to the extent the law expressly permits.
- Use Hearth to store, host, or transmit unlawful content, or to further illegal activity — for example content that sexually exploits minors, facilitates violence or terrorism, or infringes others' rights.
- Impersonate others, or use Hearth to harass, threaten, or harm another person.
- Use the service if you are under 16.
The AI features
The AI features are there to help you reflect. Don't use them to generate unlawful content, to attempt to extract other users' data, or to circumvent the daily fair-use limits.
Enforcement
Most of what you write is invisible to us by design, so enforcement is driven by abuse we can observe — attacks on our infrastructure, reports, or unlawful use of the connector or sharing features. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this policy or the law (see Suspension and termination in the Terms). Deleting an account crypto-erases its data.
